About 25 Catholic Bishops from north India visited Bodh Gaya on 22nd October 22, 2002 on an all day pilgrimage.After visiting the temples they joined about 100 Buddhist monks and Christian sisters, priests and lay people for an inter-religious prayer meet under the auspicious Bodhi Tree. They were welcomed by Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhipala, priest-in-charge, Mahabodhi Mahavihara, Bodh Gaya. The prayer started at 3PM with chanting and bhajan. Readings from Buddhist and Christian Scriptures were reflected upon. Messages stressing the need and importance of world peace were delivered by Rev. Ekai Korematsu, Buddhist teacher from Melbourne, Australia and Most Rev. Benedict J. Osta, S.J., Archbishop of Patna.Sri Kalicharan Singh Yadav, Secretary , Mahabodhi Temple Management Committee, Bodh Gaya gave the vote of thanks. |
