Ambedkar Jayanti

The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) celebrated the Ambedkar Jayanti on 14th April 2002 with a day long programme.

In the morning the function started with the garlanding of the bust of Dr. Ambedkar by the Secretary, Mr. Kalicharan Singh Yadav. Head of different monasteries and local people also garlanded the bust.jayanti2.jpg (14413 bytes)

In the evening, a Symposium titled "Ambedkar's Contribution for Social Awareness" was held at the Library building of the BTMC which was presided by the Commissioner, Magadh Division Mr. Hem Chand Sirohi. The Chief Guest was Dr. Abhimanyu Singh, Vice-chancellor, Magadh University and the Guest Speaker was Dr. Rajendra Ram, Retd. Professor, Patna University.

The Welcome address was delivered by Mr. Brijesh Mehrotra, Chairman, BTMC and D.M., Gaya wherein he stressed that instead of addressing Ambedkar as a promoter of reservation and conversion, rather we should study Ambedkar as an Institution. Chief Guest, Dr. Abhimanyu Singh in his speech compared Ambedkar with Gandhi. Both tried to eradicate the sufferings of the poor by staying and working amongst the poorer strata of society. Dr. Rajendra Ram, Guest Speaker spoke about the life and work of Dr. Ambedkar and his personal reminiscences with Ambedkar. Bhikkhu Bodhipala, Dr. Artsa Tulku, Dr. Abha Rani also spoke the occasion. In his presidential address, Mr. Hem Chand Sirohi, stressed upon the fact that the problem being faced in the Magadh Division of Naxalism and other forms of caste wars can only be solved if we can implement the philosophy of Ambedkar. It is only through the promotion and propagation of the path shown by Ambedkar that this problem can be solved.

He too stressed that the present situation being faced in the Magadh Division and the efforts being made by the Commissioner, D.I.G., D.M. Gaya and S.P. Gaya to create amity amongst the various factors is the most befitting tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.

The Symposium came to an end with the presentation of mementos to the invited guests and the BTMC donated a sapling of the Bodhi-tree to the Commissioner as a symbol of peace and brotherhood, to plant it in the disturbed area so that peace are tranquillity can prevail these.

Dr. Kailash Prasad was the master of ceremony. Mr. Mangal Subba, Dr. Ram Swarup Singh, members of the BTMC were also present.
